Recently, the Directorate General of Industry, Energy and Mines has granted administrative approval to the company for the generation SL BEFESA electricity production by catalytic oxidation process through the burning of waste.
This incineration plant for industrial waste to be located near Alum, bring up to 36,000 mt / year of liquid and solid hazardous waste, some of which are particularly toxic and dangerous. Waste will be used to regain steam power and electricity in a process that stands out for its efficiency, since only 20% will take advantage of the energy contained in waste, which is that you lose 80%. Apparently, to generate 14,140 MW / year, representing only 0.18% of regional consumption. Waste incinerators emit hundreds of toxic substances such as dioxins that are produced in the incineration process. The location of this industry in the Valley of Escombreras determined that, thanks to the wind direction, toxic emissions could reach our town, which would add to PM10 particles, sulfur dioxide and ozone that periodically suffer.
Based on the above, is presented to the plenary for adoption, the following
MOTION:
1. The City of La Union will collect comprehensive information on the proposed incinerator, which will be informed by the technical services the effect that they determine the implications for the municipality of La Union of the project, issuing a report.
2. The City of La Union will oppose any industrial project located in the municipality and nearby involving a breach of air quality and health of the population unionense.
