NO MORE LAYOFFS IN THE MAIL
El Correo de Andalucía, dean of the press Seville, suffers a further reduction of staff in 2010 after losing to 13 workers in a ERE. Since then and until today there have been more than 10 other casualties. None of them has been covered, so that nine months of job losses has reached the 23 jobs.
Now the company plans to move immediately to cut seven new jobs, reaching 30 layoffs and the decision to move in October on three other jobs, which would raise this up to a third of the staff of 92 workers that existed before the ERE. The company broke the agreement unilaterally and painful freezing and lowering salary of up to 16% assumed by the workers in the ERE to avoid further layoffs.
The publisher of the Courier justify this plan of adjustment to the loss of the paper, ignoring the fact that they have already been reduced to a very notable result of these cuts.
The committee, however, understood that the newspaper continue subtracting principal value (the professional staff that supports it and getting out into the street a quality product), and do so without an economic plan that editorial and allow tracing the crisis will only worsen their prospects.
The committee has offered to cooperate in many sacrifices bearable for staff, including a negotiated and voluntary workers, who for a year is forcing those who still remain to undertake the work they did those 23 people whose casualties have not been covered. But the company has closed on a lower band at all cut their forecasts or give any guarantee for the future.
Given this, workers we have no choice but to mobilize to defend our jobs and the viability of El Correo de Andalucía. Because we remind all of society that the crisis not only work but also through the values \u200b\u200bthat prevent the journalism sector to fulfill its role: keep firing experienced professionals to hire others with the only criteria that are cheaper, and cut rights and interests of journalists as it is doing, prevent a free and responsible exercise of the profession and will be detrimental to the important constitutional role as guarantor of rights and freedoms that the press has been instructed.
why we have called eight days to strike the next successive 4, 5, 6, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23 May.
